About Base64 encoding

Base64 represents bytes using a text-friendly alphabet. This tool converts text to and from UTF-8 bytes, so it supports Unicode characters. Standard Base64 and Base64 URL-safe characters are accepted when decoding; whitespace and optional trailing padding are ignored.

Base64 is not encryption or a security measure. Anyone can decode it, so do not use it to protect passwords, tokens, or other sensitive information. This tool decodes text only; arbitrary binary data that is not valid UTF-8 cannot be displayed as text.

All processing is local. Your input is not uploaded or saved by ToolsLodge.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded or stored?

No. Encoding and decoding happen locally in your browser. ToolsLodge does not upload or save your input.

Does the tool support Unicode text?

Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 before Base64 conversion, so characters such as accented letters and emoji round-trip correctly.

Can I decode Base64 without padding?

Yes. Valid Base64 input may omit its trailing equals signs. Spaces and line breaks in the encoded input are also ignored.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 is a reversible encoding, not encryption. It does not protect secrets or sensitive data.
