Image Compressor

Compress JPEG, PNG, or WebP images locally and compare file sizes.

Images stay on your device. Animation is not preserved.

Lower quality usually means a smaller file. PNG is lossless and ignores this setting.

How to use

  1. Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 20 MiB, or drop it into the upload area.
  2. Select WebP, JPEG, or PNG output. Adjust the quality for WebP or JPEG; PNG output is lossless and ignores the quality setting.
  3. Choose Compress image to create a local preview.
  4. Compare the original and compressed file sizes. Choose Download image to save the result.

Example

A 2 MiB PNG illustration can be converted to WebP at 80% quality. The tool displays the resulting size and dimensions so you can compare the output before downloading it. The exact size depends on the image’s detail and transparency.

About this image compressor

The compressor decodes your image in the browser, draws it at its original dimensions, and encodes a new WebP, JPEG, or PNG file. Quality controls affect lossy WebP and JPEG encoding; PNG output is lossless and may be larger than its source. PNG and WebP preserve transparency. JPEG output uses a white background for transparent areas.

Images are limited to 20 MiB and 40 megapixels to avoid excessive browser memory use. Animated images are reduced to a still frame; animation is not preserved.

Privacy

Image processing happens locally in your browser. The image is not uploaded or saved by ToolsLodge.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images are decoded and compressed in your browser. They are not sent to or stored by ToolsLodge.

Which image formats can I use?

You can select JPEG, PNG, or WebP images up to 20 MiB. The output can be WebP, JPEG, or PNG.

Will the compressed image always be smaller?

No. Results depend on the source image, output format, and quality. The tool shows both file sizes and warns when the output is larger.

Does compression change image dimensions?

No. The output keeps the source image dimensions. This tool changes the encoding and quality, not the width or height.

What happens to transparency?

PNG and WebP output preserve transparency. JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are rendered with a white background.
